Everyone wants to spend time in a bed that makes them feel comfortable and at ease every time they crawl beneath the covers. One of the ways you do this is by investing in high-quality sheets with a high thread count. After all, high thread counts lend themselves to making sheets as enjoyable to sleep on as possible, right? While it may be perceived that way, just because a sheet sports a high thread count, may not exactly mean that they are going to be heaven on earth to sleep on. Let’s find out why.
Initially, higher thread count did mean high-quality sheets the majority of the time. However, as we discussed in a previous post, thread count is determined by adding the number of horizontal threads (wefts) and vertical threads (warps) that are woven together in a square inch of fabric. Some manufacturers have found a loophole that can mean a high thread count and a low-quality product. What they do is insert extra threads in each square inch of fabric that are not actually woven into the sheet but rather just present. This allows them to add those threads to the their overall equation when they are determining thread count but does not actually make the sheet softer or better in any way.
All in all, there are three different kind of sheets that will likely never fail you. Those are organic cotton, Egyptian cotton and Pima cotton sheets because they don’t include synthetic materials like other sheets do. Not to mention, they will improve your overall quality of sleep as the lower quality synthetic sheets make breathing more difficult and increase your body temperature.
