The Care and Maintenance of Your Down Pillows

October 28, 2016

One of the best qualities of feather down pillows is their durability. Without the proper care and maintenance, these pillows lose their sturdiness. With the proper care, your down bed pillows can last many years. Here are some tips for maintaining the quality of your pillows:

Invest in a Pillow Protector
Let’s face it, we have all drooled at some point during sleep. A pillow protector protects your pillow from drool, dust, dirt, and body oils. By using a pillow protector, you will have to wash your pillows less, helping to maintain their shape.

Use a Pillow Case
In addition to a pillow protector, cover your down pillow with a pillow case, which offers another layer of protection for your down pillow. We advise washing the pillow case once a week for optimal protection.

Moisture is Your Down Pillow’s Enemy
Moisture can quickly destroy your down pillows, so keep you down pillows dry! Do not go to bed with wet hair, and we recommend refraining against the use of heavy night creams on your face as well.

You Can Wash Your Pillows If You Wash Them Properly
Wash your down pillows in cold water with mild detergent, and then gently squeeze any excess water from your pillow. You must then completely dry your pillow in the dryer on air fluff, or else your pillows will be ruined. We suggest drying your pillows for four hours, which may seem like a lot, but if any moisture is left, mildew and mold will form in your pillows. Down has a tendency to clump up when wet so be sure to break up any clumps of down so the moisture caught inside can be thoroughly dried.
