With the holiday season, comes a lot of shopping, because honestly, who can resist the incredible deals this time of the year? While it can be a blast perusing for presents, it can also be physically exhausting and stressful. If you are in the market for bedding for your loved ones this month, give the gift of comfort and choose something that will feel great, but also be long lasting. Let Warm Things be your guide and help make your shopping experience joyful! Here are some things to consider when buying bedding:
When it comes to bedding, there is a large selection of fabrics available in a variety of price ranges. 100% cotton is always a safe choice, however if you’re looking for something a bit more luxurious, consider higher end materials like Egyptian or pima. Don’t want to break the bank but desire something comparable in quality? Cotton/polyester blends are a great option for any type of budget.
Before I became a bedding expert, I assumed the higher the thread count, the better the quality. However, that is not actually the case. The truth is, many manufacturing companies allow brands to produce high thread count products without actually increasing quality. That being said, a range between 300 to 500 will be your best bet for soft, durable bedding. Don’t rely on thread count alone to make your decision and feel it out (literally).
When bedding is produced, it’s weaved together and all the threads interlock to create items like sheets, comforters, pillows, etc. The two most common weave types of percale and sateen. Percale is the most basic and is light and crisp. Sateen, on the other hand, is silky and smooth. While sateen is the higher quality choice of the two, it’s all based on personal preference.
Standard bedding sizes, like queen or king, don’t account for mattress depth. Therefore, be mindful of who you are shopping for and measure before you buy. Many people have a pad or feather bed a top their mattress so it’s best to go bigger rather than smaller, especially when there’s some shrinkage when it comes to washing.
