When you think of a bed, typically there are limitations with their production. It is usually confined by two pieces- a mattress and foundation. Generally there are four main sizes (twin, full, queen, king) and a few basic materials to create its base (wood, steel, fabric, etc.). However, creativity and our ever expanding market has allowed for dramatic changes over time.
Let’s take a look back at history. The idea of a “bed” began over 10,000 years ago during the Neolithic period, leading to designs featuring hay, straw, feathers, or wool. Centuries beyond centuries passed and new products began being introduced. Since then, there have been a multitude of improvements to our modern day mattresses. We surely can’t forget the 60’s, with the first ever water bed. Who ever thought that was a good idea?! Fast forward to today and now when you walk into a mattress store, you have a showroom of products to choose from based on size, softness, firmness, etc.
Choice and comfort became the focus of the market, balancing both supply and demand. People like options and the industry has certainly delivered that. While everyone has a personal preference, one thing we can all agree on is that the possibilities for comfort are endless.
